Summary

Beloved New York Times bestseller M。 C。 Beaton's cranky, crafty Agatha Raisin―the star of her own hit TV series―is back on the case again in Devil's Delight。

Toni and Agatha are in the car on the way to Officer Bill Wong's long-awaited wedding when, much to their shock, a naked young man bursts through a hedge on the side of the road and comes running toward them。

Terrified, he explains that he has just seen a dead body in the woods。 Toni lends him an old t-shirt to cover himself, Agatha calls the police, and the young man takes them to the spot where he saw the body, across from a meadow where the Mircester Naturist Club is due to have its annual summer barbecue。

The young man, Edward, explains that he is the club's social convener and had arrived early to set things up。 He says he found the body at the edge of the woods, near an ancient stone known as The Lone Warrior and said to have once been used as a sacrificial altar。

When they reach the spot, however, there is nothing on the large, flat rock except a small wet patch。 Even that has dried up by the time the police arrive, and Chief Inspector Wilkes accuses Agatha of wasting police time on a prank。

But Agatha and Toni grow suspicious after meeting some of the club's members, whose diverse interests range from artisanal ice cream to ancient curses。 And when another disappearance occurs, it's up to them to put together the pieces 。。。 or end up on the altar themselves。

I am a huge fan of Agatha Raisin and this book is a good as the previous installments。 Agatha is embroiled in murder involving a nudist group which leads Agatha into hilarious situations。 Agatha and her team have various investigations on the go which are all equally entertaining and interesting。 This book had me laughing out loud and kept me absolutely hooked to the very last page。 I am eagerly awaiting the next book in this amazing series。

Cozy mystery loaded with quirky situations and characters and it is an easy read。 This is the 33rd in the series and seems to still be going strong。 You don't need to read them in order to make sense of it, everything is explained。 I caught an episode of the television show and it translates well to the screen。 The only drawback for me is the old British humour doesn't quite tickle my funny bone as I imagine it would for people who are actually from the UK。Thank you to Goodreads and R。W。 Green f Cozy mystery loaded with quirky situations and characters and it is an easy read。 This is the 33rd in the series and seems to still be going strong。 You don't need to read them in order to make sense of it, everything is explained。 I caught an episode of the television show and it translates well to the screen。 The only drawback for me is the old British humour doesn't quite tickle my funny bone as I imagine it would for people who are actually from the UK。Thank you to Goodreads and R。W。 Green for an advance copy。 。。。more

The latest installment in the Agatha Raisin series has an interesting plot and is absolutely hilarious。 Agatha and Toni are driving to Bill Wong’s wedding when a nude man steps out into the road。 He is part of a naturist group (nudist colony) and enlists their help。 Soon Agatha and Toni are buried in a mystery of a disappearing corpse and witchcraft。 Will Agatha or Toni need to infiltrate the naturist group sans clothing in order to crack the case? I thoroughly enjoyed this book。

Devil’s Delight is part of the Agatha Raisin mystery series originally written by M。C。 Beaton。 This can be read without reading prior books in the series, however, once you read about Agatha and her friends, I believe you will want to go back and read more。This book starts with Agatha and her assistant, Toni, driving to attend the wedding of their friend, Bill Wong。 On the way, a naked man comes running out into the road, telling them that he has found a body。 Agatha is determined to find the ki Devil’s Delight is part of the Agatha Raisin mystery series originally written by M。C。 Beaton。 This can be read without reading prior books in the series, however, once you read about Agatha and her friends, I believe you will want to go back and read more。This book starts with Agatha and her assistant, Toni, driving to attend the wedding of their friend, Bill Wong。 On the way, a naked man comes running out into the road, telling them that he has found a body。 Agatha is determined to find the killer, while dealing with the cases that have come in to her private detective agency and her ever-changing love life。 And then there is a mysterious connection between this and an ice-cream truck company。 Just seeing the cover had me hooked right from the beginning。I have read several Agatha Raisin mysteries and love how various events that look unrelated in the beginning come together to point out the identity of the killer and how they “did it”。 Honestly, I was a bit afraid that Agatha would not be the same as R。W。 Green worked to complete this novel after Marion Beaton passed away。 I am happy to say that Agatha seems to have survived the transition and I look forward to reading more Agatha Raisin mysteries in the future。Thanks to NetGalley and St。 Martin’s Press for providing an advance copy in exchange for my honest review。 。。。more

Agatha Raisin is back in this thirty-third instalment of the popular series by M。C。 Beaton。 In Devil's Delight it is the day of Alice Peters and Bill Wong's wedding and Agatha and her assistant, Toni Gilmour, are on their way there when they happen upon a man in his birthday suit running in the road。 He is shaking and claims to have found a dead body so Toni and Agatha go to his aid。。。Moving between humour and hazard, Devil's Delight kept me on my toes throughout as I devoured each chapter。 Agat Agatha Raisin is back in this thirty-third instalment of the popular series by M。C。 Beaton。 In Devil's Delight it is the day of Alice Peters and Bill Wong's wedding and Agatha and her assistant, Toni Gilmour, are on their way there when they happen upon a man in his birthday suit running in the road。 He is shaking and claims to have found a dead body so Toni and Agatha go to his aid。。。Moving between humour and hazard, Devil's Delight kept me on my toes throughout as I devoured each chapter。 Agatha might come across as a bumbling, hard-to-please fusspot at times, but she is a smart cookie and in this novel, she shows some vulnerability。 With the resources she has at her disposal provided by others, she makes short work of what needs to be done。 With some drama in the romance arena for Agatha which added another ingredient to the mix, there's more than one crime to sort and there was always something going on to keep my attention focused。 The ending left me wanting to read another instalment in the Agatha Raisin series。I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Little, Brown Book Group/ Constable via NetGalley。 This review is my own unbiased opinion。 。。。more

Time to stop。。。33rd title in a superb series, please leave it there now that MC Beaton is no longer with us。 It feels like a rehash of a number of stories with nothing original。 It would act as a good introduction to the series for anyone unfamiliar with the exploits of the Cotswolds P。I。

This is the 33rd in series - wowsers - and the second written on behalf of MC Beaton by RW Green。 I have read and enjoyed all the previous books - I say read, but I actually mean a mixture of read and listened to - and thoroughly recommend them either for lovers of cozy mysteries or lighter crime fiction。 Although often the crime is a bit grizly! I also personally used the series when I was playing catchup as a reset。 When hard boiled crime got a bit too hard, or when I had just slogged through a marathon, it was great to be able to settle back and dip into Agatha's world - the people, the places and the shenanigans。 To say I was gutted when MC Beaton died would be an understatement but I am happy to say that RW Green has picked up the baton nicely and the transition is almost seamless。。。As we have got used to saying recently, the Queen is dead, long live the King! So。。。 Agatha and Toni are on their way to Bill Wong's wedding when they happen across a naked man。 He is in a right state and not for lack of clothing - instead, as he explains, he has found a dead body。 Obviously with no pockets (remember naked) he has no phone so he was running to fetch help。 And help is what he finds with Agatha and Toni who accompany him to the body only to find there is no body。 And so begins the usual shenanigans, played out by the usual characters all acting in their usual manner。 You know what you are getting into with this series by now, I don't need to spell it out and for newbies to the series, what on earth possesses you to start a series with book 33。。。Anyway。。。 the story piqued my interest from the off, held my attention throughout, had me running round trying to second guess but pretty much giving up, and left me satisfied at the end。 Job done pretty much。 Roll on next time。。。 My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book。 。。。more

This is the third book to be produced since the death of author MC Beaton。 The writer chosen to continue the series: RW Green, is doing a fairly good job continuing the series。 There are moments when this is clearly not the work of the original author but, on the whole, it feels authentically Agatha Raisin。 I enjoyed the story which is centred around members of the local naturists' club but found the plot a little difficult to believe, particularly towards the end。 I suspect the majority of real This is the third book to be produced since the death of author MC Beaton。 The writer chosen to continue the series: RW Green, is doing a fairly good job continuing the series。 There are moments when this is clearly not the work of the original author but, on the whole, it feels authentically Agatha Raisin。 I enjoyed the story which is centred around members of the local naturists' club but found the plot a little difficult to believe, particularly towards the end。 I suspect the majority of real-life naturists might even find the plot a little insulting as the denouement appears to associate nudism with pagan rites! One thing I liked was the way Agatha's team were seen investigating more than one crime, a more realistic scenario than merely focussing on one issue, and it also helped to create more layers to the story。 All in all, this is an enjoyable (but fairly short) read which Agatha Raisin and cosy fiction fans should find most enjoyable。 。。。more

I have read or listened to audiobooks of all the Agatha Raisin series。 This is number 33, and the third credited as "with R W Green"。 All the usual elements appear in this one, with the exception of Roy Silver, Agatha's protégé from her PR days, and I found it rather lacklustre。 This may be because I no longer find Mrs Raisin's antics as endearing as I once did or because the books have become so repetitive and formulaic。 For many readers this may well be part of the coziness and comfort but the I have read or listened to audiobooks of all the Agatha Raisin series。 This is number 33, and the third credited as "with R W Green"。 All the usual elements appear in this one, with the exception of Roy Silver, Agatha's protégé from her PR days, and I found it rather lacklustre。 This may be because I no longer find Mrs Raisin's antics as endearing as I once did or because the books have become so repetitive and formulaic。 For many readers this may well be part of the coziness and comfort but there is now very little by way of detection, certainly by Agatha。 Here she stumbles onto the solution by way of being shut in a freezer (again), having already decided who was responsible for the murders anyway。 She has nothing to do with the resolution of the two subplots-drug dealing in a school and peculation in a brewery- and the professionals play an even smaller part than usual, apart from one of them providing love interest。 The opening is in some ways the best part of the book, although the Naturist Group introduced there has little relevance to the plot。 I could have done without the lengthy outline of "Cavalleria rusticana" with which one of Agatha's conquests entertains her over dinner and the short appearances of some of the other regulars such as James, Charles and Mrs Bloxby, could have been dispensed with quite easily。 Not vintage reading for me。 Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, Little Brown Book Group UK, for the digital review copy。 。。。more

Devil’s Delight is the 33rd installment in the Agatha Raisin series by M。C。 Beaton, R。W。 Green。 Agatha and Toni are private investigator’s on their way to a friend’s wedding, when in front of their car a naked man stumbles out and comes running towards them。 They stop to help the terrified man, and he explains there was a dead body in the woods。 After the police are called, the man takes Agatha and Toni to where the body was, it was on an ancient stone called The Lone Warrior, which was used in Devil’s Delight is the 33rd installment in the Agatha Raisin series by M。C。 Beaton, R。W。 Green。 Agatha and Toni are private investigator’s on their way to a friend’s wedding, when in front of their car a naked man stumbles out and comes running towards them。 They stop to help the terrified man, and he explains there was a dead body in the woods。 After the police are called, the man takes Agatha and Toni to where the body was, it was on an ancient stone called The Lone Warrior, which was used in the past as a sacrificial alter。 When they arrive, the body is gone, left behind is a small wet patch, the only proof a body was ever there。 However, even the wet spot is gone by the time the police arrive, further infuriating Chief Inspector Wilkes, who is not a fan of the private investigators already, and accuses them of a prank。 Toni and Agatha know there is more to this story, and believe there was a body there, so they decide to investigate it on their own。 The story becomes more intriguing since the location of the body is within the confines of a naturist club, aka nudist club。 In order to properly investigate the many questionable characters, they must join the naturist club to truly be accepted and trusted。 As more people disappear, and secrets are revealed of questionable business decisions, not to mention a drug problem in a private school, the pair realize there is more going on than they could have imagined, and it all points to the same few people。 This is the first book in this series I have ever read。 It’s a cozy type mystery, with a lot of nudity, and some very unlikeable characters。 I’m not even sure I liked Agatha Raisins character, I’m still marinating my thoughts on her。 She seemed a bit shallow, as far as her body image and men choices。 There didn’t seem to be a lot of character development, and while the story unfolded with all questions answered, I found it boring at times。 I would like to thank Netgalley, Mintauer Books and the authors for an advanced reader copy of this novel in exchange for an honest opinion。 。。。more
